*this is a case study from a real-life mum who reached out for help. We share our case studies in the hope it may help other mums who are in the same, or similar, situations. Not everyone parents in the same way, so please do not judge, criticize or demean these mothers and the parenting choices they have made in the best interests of their babies and their families.

Name: Isla

Age: 8 weeks

Mother: Holly

Room: Dark curtains, swaddled in a 'SwaddleMe' then moved to the 'Love to Dream', white noise and Baby Shusher.

Naps: Holly couldn't tell us her nap schedule as it really was all over the place and Isla used to wake 2-3 times a night for feeds/resettles.

To start with Holly just 'went with the flow' letting Isla tell her when and where she wanted to sleep. This resulted in her sleeping on Holly more often than not. Holly would feed her to sleep 90% of the time. Isla would never sleep in the car or stroller so poor Holly was house-bound and felt very trapped in this new motherhood role. Isla would very rarely sleep in her own bed unless she was put in there asleep (by being fed to sleep). When she was aware of being put into bed she would scream blue murder and appeared to be in some sort of pain. Holly could put her down and rock her to sleep, but as soon as she stopped rocking Isla would wake.

Holly got in touch with Little Ones and the first thing we did was get Isla set up with our Newborn Sleep Program. Following the Program highlighted that something wasn't quite right and after discussing what kind of schedule and behavior Isla was showing, we discovered reflux may be the problem. A swift visit to a pediatrician and sure enough, she was diagnosed gastrointestinal reflux and prescribed medication to help with the pain.

Babies of this age will easily follow our Sleep Program if all their ducks are in a row. The Program will quickly highlight if something is amiss (sickness, intolerances, feeding difficulties), as was the case with baby Isla. Holly has since told us she didn't know how long it would have taken her to realize the reflux issue if it hadn't been made obvious by Isla following our Program and therefore being able to rule out over or undertiredness or settling issues. Almost instantly after Isla started her medication we noticed a substantial change in her behavior and she became a much more settled baby, able to follow the natural rhythm of the Program for her age.

Holly is now developing a really strong relationship and connection with her beautiful little girl! She is finally finding the enjoyment of parenthood which she says she was missing in the beginning due to pure exhaustion.
